Job summary

Teach Plus are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time position in Newham, starting ASAP. The role involves supporting pupils with a range of needs, both in class and 1:1 or small groups, to help them access learning and develop confidence and independence.

The successful candidate will work with the class teacher, SENCO and support team to implement strategies from EHCPs and foster positive relationships, safeguarding, and professional conduct.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a UK school.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND.
  • Experience with autism, ADHD, SEMH or challenging behaviour advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding.
  • Valid DBS on the Update Service is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum and classroom activities.
  • Assist with social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Implement strategies outlined within individual support plans and EHCPs.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times and wider school activities.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional conduct.
