Job summary

Academics are recruiting for a Learning Support Worker to join a caring and inclusive primary school in Torfaen, supporting pupils in the classroom and helping them overcome barriers to learning.

The ideal candidate will be patient, encouraging and consistent, with experience in school or childcare settings, and a good understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality. DBS and references are required as part of the registration process.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people.
• Experience in a school, childcare, care or similar setting.
• Strong communication skills, patience and resilience.
• A positive and nurturing approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
• Education Workforce Council registration.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
• Two recent professional references.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils during lessons, including one-to-one and small-group work
• Helping children access and understand classroom activities
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour
• Supporting classroom routines and planned activities
• Helping develop pupils' social, communication and learning skills
• Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
