Job summary

Academics is working with a primary school in Torfaen to recruit a One-to-One Support Assistant for September 2026. The role focuses on providing consistent, individual support to a pupil who needs extra help to access the curriculum and participate confidently in school life.

You will work closely with the class teacher, supporting phonics, reading, writing and maths, while helping the pupil build independence and confidence. A dependable team player with excellent communication is required.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children one-to-one desirable.
• Commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
• Ability to adapt approach to meet individual needs.
• Patience, consistency and a positive attitude.
• Strong communication with teaching staff.
• DBS updates or willingness to obtain via Update Service.
• Registration with Education Workforce Council (EWC).
• Two recent professional references.

Responsibilities

• Assist with phonics, reading, writing and maths.
• Provide individual support to the pupil throughout the day.
• Work with the class teacher to tailor support to needs.
• Help the pupil feel included in lessons and activities.
