Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Imaging Department Support Worker to join a patient-centred imaging service. You will assist radiographers and sonographers, help move patients safely, and support the team during examinations.

This role operates within a 24/7 imaging service and requires shift work, including nights, on a bank (0-hour) contract. You may be moved to alternative duties within competence as needed, and will cover for absences to meet service needs.

Qualifications

• Meets Trust numeracy and literacy test requirements.
• NVQ 2 or equivalent Trust based competency.
• Desirable: Care Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with radiographers/sonographers to prioritise patients.
• Assist Radiographers, Sonographers, and RAs during imaging examinations.
• Communicate with patients and carers in difficult circumstances; support and reassure.
• Organise screening and ultrasound lists; ring wards; coordinate with portering staff.
• Observe patient condition; move patients safely and efficiently.
• Assist in fluoroscopy examinations when required.
• Monitor waiting areas; escalate changes to radiographer/nurse.
• Prepare water/fluids for patient preparation.
• Prepare sterile trolleys for biopsies/drainages.
• Prepare examination rooms and assist with patient movement.
• Recognise respiratory/cardiac arrest and act immediately.
