Job summary

Leonardo in the UK is offering a nine-week Summer Placement in Systems Engineering within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line, based in Luton. You’ll work on a defined project or investigation, guided by experienced engineers, and gain practical experience applying university learning to real engineering challenges.

Qualifications

• Currently studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another STEM subject.
• Interest in engineering and enthusiasm for Systems Engineering in an industry environment.
• Curiosity and a logical approach to solving unfamiliar problems.
• Self-motivation and a proactive approach to learning and problem solving.
• Ability to consider both the detail of a problem and the wider system or context.
• Willingness to investigate topics, ask questions and use evidence to develop understanding.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to learn from others while sharing ideas.
• Ability to organise and prioritise work and take ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Apply and develop technical knowledge to investigate a real engineering problem or opportunity.
• Understand the problem and its wider context, including customer and stakeholder needs.
• Gather, analyse and interpret information or data to support engineering decisions.
• Explore potential solutions and improvements, considering benefits and limitations.
• Use Systems Engineering techniques such as requirements analysis and modelling where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with engineers and specialists from different disciplines.
• Develop practical experience of how engineering activities are undertaken within an organization.
• Document and communicate work clearly, sharing findings and recommendations with stakeholders.
• Contribute to engineering capability and process improvement.
