Job summary

Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join IT & Digital Services. You will maintain and enhance our on-premises and cloud infrastructure to keep services secure and resilient for residents and staff.

Hybrid working—typically 3 days on site and 2 remote—offers a balance between teamwork and focused work. Candidates should have strong Microsoft tech skills, knowledge of Azure and 365, and experience with disaster recovery and security updates.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Server, Microsoft 365 and Azure.
• Experience with networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Knowledge of SQL Server administration.
• Experience supporting cloud or hybrid environments.
• The ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain server, storage, network and cloud infrastructure.
• Manage and develop Microsoft-based environments, including Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Ensure system security through patching, updates and vulnerability remediation.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues that impact critical services.
• Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, projects and service improvements.
• Work with third-party suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver reliable services.
• Support compliance requirements such as PSN and PCI DSS.
