Job summary

Basingstoke Council is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join the IT & Digital Services team. This role maintains and develops the council’s core IT infrastructure, supporting critical services for residents.

You will work across on‑premise and cloud environments, ensuring secure, resilient systems and contributing to digital estate improvements. Hybrid working: typically 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies (Server, 365, Azure).
• Experience with networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the council’s server, storage, network and cloud infrastructure.
• Develop Microsoft-based environments, including Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Ensure system security through patching, updates and vulnerability remediation.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues affecting critical services.
• Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, projects and service improvements.
• Coordinate with third-party suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Support compliance requirements such as PSN and PCI DSS.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and advise on improvements.
