Job summary

North Somerset Council is recruiting a dedicated Homeless Prevention Officer to join the Homeless Prevention Team. You will assess and prevent homelessness through high-quality guidance, referrals, and casework.

The role requires working with partners, managing a diverse caseload, and delivering compliant investigations under housing legislation. You will engage with customers, explain options, and help households access support.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation.
• Experience of working with vulnerable applicants and the public.
• Experience managing a caseload with deadlines and investigations.
• Ability to build partnerships with external agencies to prevent homelessness.
• Excellent communication skills across multiple channels.

Responsibilities

• Prevent homelessness through advice and early intervention.
• Manage referrals and caseloads with accuracy for monitoring and reporting.
• Lead for specific areas (e.g. domestic violence, young people) and represent the service at meetings.
• Carry out homeless investigations and make decisions within legislative frameworks.
• Provide information and advice to the community and refer to CAB or tenancy support.
