Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is recruiting a Citywide Responsive Officer to operate a wide range of vehicles and equipment, delivering an effective environmental and waste service across the city. The role requires physical work, driving ability and good community engagement.

The post offers a fixed-term contract, 37 hours per week, with hybrid and flexible working options, and access to the local authority pension scheme plus development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Hold a driving licence (Category B) with no more than 6 points.
• Knowledge and awareness of hazards and dangers of working on a public highway.
• Experience of heavy, prolonged manual work.
• Able to communicate effectively over a mobile phone and follow instructions.
• Able to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean, safe and well presented neighbourhoods and communal areas
• Remove litter, graffiti, fly tipped waste, hazardous waste
• Carry out garden clearances, estate maintenance and upkeep of street furniture and open spaces
• Collect, deliver and exchange waste and recycling containers across the city
• Respond promptly to reports of vandalism and environmental issues, carrying out repairs or remedial action
• Engage positively with residents and local communities
