Job summary

GE Vernova in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced Power Systems Engineer specializing in HVDC design and system studies to interpret customer requirements and design cost-effective HVDC solutions. The role focuses on insulation coordination, network interaction, reliability modeling, and project-weighted reporting to clients.

You will develop and industrialize solution tools, advance HVDC technologies, and mentor teammates while ensuring compliance with company policies and EHS standards.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in power systems with proven experience in power system engineering and HVDC design.
• Conversant with PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent, RTDS, MATLAB, Python and Isograph.
• RMS and EMT system studies including load-flow, short-circuit and stability.
• HVDC insulation coordination and main equipment characteristics knowledge.
• Proven ability to develop and industrialize engineering tools and processes.

Responsibilities

• Insulation Coordination Studies: simulate overvoltage stress and surge arrester ratings.
• Network studies to ensure correct interaction between equipment and control systems.
• Reliability and Availability studies and client reporting.
• Loss calculations and client reporting on project losses.
• Guide engineering tasks to meet project/tender requirements.
• Provide technical responsibility in areas of expertise.
• Develop and industrialize tools and processes for engineering activities.
• Advance HVDC technologies, control/protection solutions and analysis tools.
• Process improvement: review and record design processes and develop improvements.
• Enforce engineering discipline and quality procedures across tasks.
• Represent the business at external events; publish technical papers.
• Mentor other engineers to raise team knowledge; stay current with methodologies.
• Comply with GE Values Charter; identify and address non-conformances; manage EHS risks.
• Promote safety, hazard identification and near-miss reporting within teams.
