Job summary

National Grid in the United Kingdom is seeking engineers to start in a structured training programme that leads to a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) role. The initial 24 months focus on hands-on site training and classroom learning to build your safety authorisations.

As SAP, you will lead teams on high voltage substation projects, conduct risk assessments, and coordinate safety-critical activities. A 5,000 GBP SAP allowance is part of the package, plus standby duties and a company car.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 3/ONC in Electrical Engineering qualification.
• High Voltage experienced.
• You have practical industrial engineering skills - installations, breakdown, repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Ability to read schematic electrical drawings, produce risk assessments and method statements.
• Ability to use test equipment and interpret maintenance results.
• You must be able to commit and attend training courses at our Eakring site in Nottinghamshire and other sites which will require short stays away from home to complete your training.
• You will be available for standby rota providing reactive call outs for emergencies, due to this you will live within 40 minutes travel of Walsall, WS5 4HU.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of fitters and contractors on high voltage substation projects.
• Provide risk assessments and method statements, and run toolbox talks.
• Manage, monitor and review progress on safety critical works.
• Undertake site delivery activities as the appointed temporary works co-ordinator and principal contractor per CDM regs.
