Job summary

National Grid is seeking experienced Electrical Engineers to register interest in its SAP training programme. The role focuses on developing specialist high-voltage expertise through a 24–36 month structured development pathway, leading to Senior Authorised Person status enabling safe, critical work on the UK transmission network.

The programme includes on-site training at a dedicated facility, supported by National Grid and other locations, with potential overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 3 or ONC in Electrical Engineering.
• Practical experience installing, maintaining, repairing or fault-finding on electrical plant and equipment.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• Experience preparing or working to risk assessments and method statements.
• Confidence using electrical test equipment and making sound engineering decisions.
• Willingness to attend training at Eakring in Nottinghamshire and other National Grid locations.
• Flexibility to join an emergency standby rota and live within ~45 minutes of the base.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of fitters and contractors carrying out work on high-voltage substations.
• Plan and coordinate complex maintenance and capital projects.
• Prepare and approve risk assessments and method statements.
• Manage electrical safety and operational risk.
• Take responsibility for safety-critical activities on the transmission network.
• Apply engineering expertise to solve technical challenges and support network reliability.
• Be involved with emergency call outs on standby rota.
