Job summary

National Grid is seeking a candidate to start in a trainee role then progress to Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for high voltage substations. You will train on-site and in classroom environments, join regional teams, and advance to leading teams with a £5,000 SAP allowance.

The role includes standby duties, risk assessments, and ensuring safe project delivery. The program begins with training, then moves you into SAP responsibilities, with travel to Nottinghamshire and other sites as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 3/ONC in Electrical Engineering qualification.
• High Voltage experienced.
• Practical industrial engineering skills - installations, breakdown, repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Ability to read schematic electrical drawings, produce risk assessments and method statements.
• Ability to use test equipment and interpret maintenance results.
• You must be able to commit and attend training courses at our Eakring site in Nottinghamshire and other sites which will require short stays away from home to complete your training.
• You will be available for standby rota providing reactive call outs for emergencies, due to this you will live within 45 mins of Kearsley, M26 1EL.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of fitters and contractors on high voltage substation projects.
• Ensure works are set to work safely, with risk assessments and method statements.
• Conduct toolbox talks and oversee safety-critical works.
• Coordinate temporary works delivery and act as principal contractor under CDM regs.
• Respond to standby calls and assist in emergency operations.
