Job summary

National Grid in the United Kingdom is inviting experienced Electrical Engineers to register interest in a comprehensive SAP training programme. You’ll develop high‑voltage expertise and progress toward leading safety‑critical work on the transmission network, with on‑site training at Eakring and other locations.

The programme lasts 24–36 months, with a starting salary of £47,442–£55,000 and a structured progression, including an SAP allowance after qualification, a 37‑hour week, pension

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or ONC in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience installing, maintaining, repairing or fault‑finding on electrical plant/equipment.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• Experience preparing or working to risk assessments and method statements.
• Confidence using electrical test equipment and interpreting results.
• Willingness to attend training at Eakring and other National Grid locations.
• Flexibility to join emergency standby rota and live within ~45 minutes of base.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of engineers and contractors on high‑voltage substations.
• Plan and coordinate maintenance and capital projects.
• Prepare and approve risk assessments and method statements.
• Manage electrical safety and operational risk.
• Take responsibility for safety‑critical activities on the transmission network.
• Apply engineering expertise to solve technical challenges and support network reliability.
• Participate in emergency call outs on standby rota.
