Job summary

National Grid is seeking a future Senior Authorised Person with a hands-on engineering pathway. The initial 24-month training will combine on-site work and classroom learning to build safety authorisations.

After qualification, you will advance to the Senior Authorised Person (SAP) role, leading fitters and contractors on high-voltage substation projects, including risk assessments, method statements, toolbox talks, and safety-critical supervision.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 3/ONC in Electrical Engineering qualification.
• High Voltage experienced.
• You have practical industrial engineering skills – installations, breakdown, repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Ability to read schematic electrical drawings, produce risk assessments and method statements.
• Ability to use test equipment and interpret maintenance results.
• Must be able to commit to training courses at Eakring site and other sites with short stays away from home.
• Live within 45 mins of Kearsley, M26 1EL and have a Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of fitters and contractors on high voltage substation projects.
• Provide risk assessments and method statements; conduct toolbox talks.
• Manage, monitor and review safety critical works on site.
• Undertake site delivery activities as the appointed temporary works co-ordinator and principal contractor per CDM regs.
• Join standby rota for emergency call outs and provide availability.
