Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is looking for an Electrical Substation Engineer to design Grid and Primary substation systems, drafting specifications for 11kV–132kV projects and producing feasibility studies with cost estimates.

You will review supplier designs for compliance, act as CDM Designer/Principal Designer on HV/EHV projects, and manage health and safety risks while coordinating with clients and site teams.

Qualifications

• HV & EHV substation design experience (AIS & GIS) up to 132kV.
• Experience with HV/EHV plant specifications, including CTs, batteries, terminations.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation for substations and prepare plant specifications.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and policies for HV/EHV substations.

Responsibilities

• Produce a comprehensive suite of design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and substation upgrades from 11kV to 132kV.
• Produce substation design feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts and GA drawings with plant specs.
• Review supplier and client designs for compliance with standards and legislation.
• Deliver designs in line with contract to client satisfaction.
• Undertake CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer roles for HV/EHV projects.
• Identify and manage health and safety risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design requirements during build.
• Ensure project designs align with programme, quality and margin.
• Develop external and internal client relationships.
