Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland seeks an experienced electrical engineer to join the Scotland Energy Networks team in Glasgow. You will design HV and EHV cable systems for transmission projects, assess routes, and ensure compliance with IEC standards, CIGRE guidance, and FAT/testing practices.

The role requires strong technical leadership, collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to travel to project sites and facilities. Hybrid working and chartership development are supported.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related field.
• Experience designing HV/EHV cable systems and HVDC exposure is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of cable design, ampacity, thermal analyses and CYMCAP usage.
• Experience supporting major transmission projects and renewable energy developments.
• Familiarity with IEC, CIGRE guidance and related cable standards.
• Experience FAT, site testing, commissioning, and QC of cable works.
• Ability to provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
• Engagement with industry groups such as CIGRE, IEEE, EI or IET is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify HV/EHV cable systems for transmission and interconnectors.
• Conduct route, site and installation assessments with constructability in mind.
• Produce high-quality calculations, reports and design documentation.
• Support HVAC and HVDC solutions for onshore and offshore projects.
• Review design changes and provide technical support during manufacturing and installation.
• Lead technical reviews, audits and quality assurance processes.
