Job summary

WSP in Scotland is seeking a Cable Systems Engineer to deliver HV and HVDC cable systems across transmission, distribution and renewable energy projects from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Perth offices. You will join a growing team combining local knowledge with WSP’s UK and international energy expertise.

As part of the Scotland Energy Networks team, you will work on significant projects, perform cable system studies, apply CYMCAP, and support design reviews, FAT, installation and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong knowledge of HV and EHV cable systems design, ratings and installation methodologies.
• Experience with HVDC schemes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop HV and EHV cable systems for transmission and distribution projects.
• Conduct cable system studies including ratings, thermal analyses and performance using CYMCAP.
• Produce engineering deliverables, calculations, specifications and design documents for project delivery.
• Support HVAC/HVDC solutions for onshore, offshore and interconnector projects.
• Perform route/site/installation assessments and address technical and environmental constraints.
• Ensure designs comply with standards, specifications, safety and regulations.
• Collaborate with project teams, clients and manufacturers to deliver cable projects.
• Review design changes and provide technical support through manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning.
