Job summary

Sopwell House, a 5-Star Georgian country house hotel in Hertfordshire, seeks an experienced HR professional to lead our people agenda. You will drive wellbeing initiatives, support leaders across all departments, and ensure lawful, fair handling of absence, grievances and performance matters.

Join a warm, service-driven team and help shape HR policies, oversee HR systems and maintain data integrity. Excellent communication and a proactive, confidential approach are essential.

Qualifications

• UK employment law knowledge and ACAS guidance applied in practice.
• Ability to manage employee relations cases with fairness and discretion.
• Strong IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience with HR systems.

• Bring our wellbeing programme to life across physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing.
• Be a visible, approachable presence across every department.
• Manage sickness absence, return-to-work and reasonable adjustments with empathy and in line with employment law.
• Coach managers and team members on performance, conduct and career development.
• Handle grievances, disciplinaries and conflict resolution fairly and in line with policy and employment law.
• Help develop HR policies and procedures that meet employment law, brand and industry standards.
• Look after our HR systems and data integrity, supported by the HR Coordinator.

Your role in our family:

• Bring our wellbeing programme to life, covering physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing

What we're looking for

• Excellent, up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS guidance, and how to apply it in practice
• Confidence managing employee relations cases with fairness, empathy and discretion
• Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, plus experience using HR systems
• Excellent communication, analytical and presentation skills
• Great attention to detail, with strong planning, time management and follow-through
• The ability to juggle a varied workload in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and positive
• A flexible, open-minded approach, including to working hours, and a genuine willingness to learn
• A warm, visible style that builds trust with colleagues at every level

Hospitality experience would be a real advantage, but it's your service mindset that matters most.
