Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to support their Power Transmission & Distribution substation projects across the South of England. The role requires regular travel and overnight stays, with a flexible location but a strong focus on delivering risk-based assurance and expert HSW guidance.

Working with the Head of HSW and the wider team, you will promote a strong health and safety culture, lead investigations, and embed the Zero Harm vision

Qualifications

• Health, Safety and Environment qualifications (Diploma/NVQ/Degree or equivalent)
• Broad experience in complex construction and civils projects
• Proven track record in a management role
• Chartered IOSH membership or working towards
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
• Ability to influence and promote a positive HSW culture
• Experience in incident investigation and HSW reporting
• Knowledge of UK H&S regulatory framework and BMS/SSOW
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) competence

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of the Power T&D HS&W strategy
• Lead risk-based assurance and provide expert HSW advice
• Develop and review HSW KPIs at project and business level
• Support bids with HSW responses for proposals and PQQs
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses following BB standards
• Develop local risk-based Service Level Agreements and review quarterly
• Conduct on-site visits to provide HSW guidance to project teams
• Produce formal HSW reports using project portals
• Support Environmental Risk Management and Sustainability plans
• Lead or contribute to HSW training and design/engineering teams
• Engage with supply chain on HSW practices
• Promote prevention hierarchy throughout project lifecycle
