Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to support its Power Transmission and Distribution portfolio across the North of the UK. The role requires leading a team of HS&W Advisors, regular project visits, and a hybrid mix of site work and home-based duties.

You will mentor staff, provide expert HS&W guidance, engage with customers and the supply chain, and drive zero-harm initiatives across complex construction projects.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
• Relevant HS qualifications with on-site experience.
• Full clean driving licence, and willingness to travel.
• Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&W culture by engaging at all levels.
• Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets.
• Competence in incident investigation.
• Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&W topics.
• Experience of complex construction and civil projects.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Health and Safety Advisors across projects in the North.
• Provide expert HS&W advice, guidance and support to project teams.
• Engage with internal and external customers and supply chain for zero-harm delivery.
• Agree a local risk-based Service Level Agreement for each project with quarterly reviews.
• Conduct regular site inspections and document findings.
• Monitor Health and Safety risk controls and opportunities.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses per standards.
• Support bid teams with HS&W responses for proposals and PQQs.
• Collaborate with design/engineering to reduce HS&W risk through design.
