Job summary

Mears Group is seeking a Housing Support Officer in Sunderland to deliver high-quality housing management and support to asylum seekers throughout their Home Office right-to-work process. You will coordinate move-ins, maintain records, and work with partners to ensure welfare and safeguarding needs are met.

You will manage a portfolio of homes, monitor compliance with KPIs, carry out risk assessments, and provide practical and emotional support in a client-centred, inclusive way.

Qualifications

• Welfare and safeguarding must be addressed for asylum seekers.
• Provide practical and emotional support to individuals and families.
• Identify needs and set up support to promote independence.
• Engage with vulnerable groups, including those with mental health needs.
• Carry out risk assessments and maintain records for audits and compliance.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, service users and partners.
• Maintain professional boundaries while being approachable and supportive.
• Work independently with resilience and initiative.
• Travel between sites as required and hold a UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high-quality housing management and support service to asylum seekers.
• Coordinate move-ins, move-outs, voids and inspections within portfolio.
• Monitor KPIs and manage risks while safeguarding wellbeing.
• Identify support needs and arrange appropriate assistance with partners.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external agencies and care providers.
