Job summary

Dublin Simon Community seeks a dedicated Support Worker in Chester to assist clients with daily needs and support their personal, social and health goals. You will work across our accommodation services, following best-practice standards with a structured induction and 10 training days per year to support your development.

Working 37.5 hours per week on a full-time, permanent contract, you will report to the Service Manager and may be required to cover a 7-day liability.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field and professional accreditation if required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a social or care setting.
  • Understanding of homelessness and service user needs.
  • Strong record keeping and report writing abilities.
  • IT skills including MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Client-focused, adaptable, accountable and resilient.
  • Excellent communicator and ability to advocate for clients.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour while maintaining respect.

Responsibilities

  • Support project/key workers and management to implement goals and follow-up on actions.
  • Build professional relationships with service users and residents with dignity.
  • Provide emotional and motivational support to promote positive mental health.
  • Liaise with housing providers, health care professionals and social welfare.
  • Deliver personal, professional and social development programmes.
  • Assist with medication/health regimes and healthcare appointments.
  • Process enquiries and referrals to accommodation services.
  • Help service users liaise with landlords and move locations when needed.
  • Conduct harm reduction interventions; overdose prevention and stabilisation.
  • Carry out daily duties including health support, personal care and building upkeep.
  • Ensure fire safety, hazard management, building checks and ward-related compliance.
  • Manage challenging behaviour and maintain accommodation agreements.
  • Perform administrative duties: petty cash, records (electronic and paper), filing, queries.
  • Ensure handovers, diaries, incident reports and follow-ups per policies.
