Job summary

London, UK-based housing service seeks a Homelessness Prevention Officer on a 6-month interim contract. The role focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness, providing advice, assistance and support to individuals and families at risk of losing accommodation.

You will assess housing needs, develop personalised housing plans, give housing advice, explore options, and work with landlords, housing providers and partner agencies to prevent evictions and secure housing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of housing options and homelessness prevention
• Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise competing demands
• Understanding of relevant housing legislation, safeguarding and confidentiality

Responsibilities

• Assess applicants' housing needs and circumstances in accordance with relevant legislation and policies
• Develop and implement personalised housing plans to prevent or relieve homelessness
• Provide housing advice and explore suitable accommodation options
• Liaise with landlords, housing providers and partner agencies to prevent eviction and secure accommodation
• Support applicants to resolve housing difficulties, including rent arrears, tenancy issues and family breakdown
• Maintain accurate case records and make sure statutory deadlines are met
• Identify safeguarding concerns and refer applicants to appropriate support services
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to achieve positive housing outcomes
