Job summary

Vivid Resourcing Ltd is assisting a local authority in Haywards Heath to recruit a Homelessness Prevention Officer on an interim basis. You will manage a caseload of households at risk of homelessness and help prevent homelessness through personalised housing plans.

You will assess cases, decide on homelessness duties, work with landlords and partners to secure accommodation, and maintain accurate records within statutory timescales.

Qualifications

• Experience in homelessness, housing options or housing advice roles.
• Knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience managing a caseload and meeting statutory deadlines.
• Experience carrying out assessments and making decisions on homelessness duties.
• Strong communication and empathy in sensitive conversations.
• Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise a varied workload.
• Experience with housing case management systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, in line with the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Carry out assessments and develop personalised housing plans with clients.
• Provide advice and casework aimed at preventing and relieving homelessness.
• Work with private landlords, housing providers and other partners to secure and sustain accommodation.
• Make decisions on homelessness duties and issue clear, well‑reasoned decision letters.
• Arrange and manage temporary accommodation where required.
• Liaise with support services, social care, health professionals and other agencies.
• Respond to reviews and enquiries within statutory timescales.
• Maintain accurate case records and meet performance targets.
