Job summary

Sandwell Council in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced Team Leader for the Housing Solutions Service to oversee homelessness prevention and housing advice operations. The role focuses on guiding staff, ensuring statutory compliance and delivering high-quality customer outcomes.

The successful candidate will manage a team of Homelessness Prevention Officers and Housing Needs Advisers, drive service improvements and build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience in homelessness, housing solutions or social housing.
• Experience leading, supervising and developing teams.
• Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing options and prevention.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for delivering high-quality homelessness and housing services.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team delivering homelessness prevention and housing advice.
• Provide guidance on complex homelessness cases and statutory decisions.
• Ensure compliance with homelessness legislation and council policies.
• Drive service performance, quality assurance and improvement.
• Develop partnerships with internal services, housing providers and voluntary sector.
• Represent the service at meetings and forums with management-level input.
• Support customers to understand housing options and access accommodation pathways.
• Coach and develop staff through supervision and development opportunities.
• Contribute to policy development and service transformation.
