Job summary

Sandwell Council in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced Team Leader for the Housing Solutions Service to oversee homelessness prevention and housing advice operations. The role focuses on guiding staff, ensuring statutory compliance and delivering high-quality customer outcomes.

The successful candidate will manage a team of Homelessness Prevention Officers and Housing Needs Advisers, drive service improvements and build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Are you an experienced housing professional with a passion for preventing homelessness and supporting customers through some of the most challenging times in their lives?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and motivated Team Leader to join our Housing Solutions Service. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team delivering housing advice, homelessness prevention and statutory homelessness services, helping customers access the support they need to secure and sustain suitable accommodation.

As Team Leader, you will lead and inspire a team of Homelessness Prevention Officers and Housing Needs Advisers, supporting them to deliver high-quality housing advice, homelessness prevention and statutory homelessness services. You will provide expert guidance on complex cases, drive service improvements and work with partners across the housing sector to help customers access safe and sustainable housing solutions.

The role will involve:

• Leading and motivating a team delivering homelessness prevention and housing advice services.
• Providing guidance and professional oversight on complex homelessness cases and statutory decisions.
• Ensuring compliance with homelessness legislation, guidance and Council policies.
• Driving service performance, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
• Developing effective partnerships with internal services, housing providers, support agencies and voluntary sector organisations.
• Representing the Housing Solutions Service at internal and external meetings and partnership forums, providing management-level expertise, influencing service delivery, making informed decisions and fostering effective working relationships to achieve positive outcomes for customers.
• Supporting customers to understand their housing options and access appropriate accommodation pathways.
• Managing, coaching and developing staff to achieve excellent customer outcomes.
• Supporting staff through regular supervision, reflective practice, coaching and development opportunities.
• Contributing to policy development, service transformation and innovative approaches to homelessness prevention.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience working within homelessness, housing solutions, social housing or a similar customer-focused environment.
• Experience leading, supervising and developing teams.
• Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing options and homelessness prevention.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• A passion for delivering high-quality services and improving outcomes for customers facing housing difficulties.

Essential Requirements:

• Educated to GCSE level, Grades A to C, must include English language and maths or an equivalent qualification.

Additional Information:

• This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week.
