Sutton Council invites applications for an Advice and Prevention Team Leader based in Sutton. Hybrid working and full-time hours offer a structured leadership role to oversee frontline housing advice services, ensuring assessments meet statutory requirements.

The role requires homelessness sector experience, strong leadership, and deep knowledge of housing legislation to guide casework, influence policy and improve preventing homelessness outcomes.

Qualifications

• Homelessness field experience in housing advice or housing support.
• Leadership experience in housing services or homelessness teams.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation (Housing Act 1996, Housing Act 2004).
• Ability to interpret guidance, make decisions and supervise complex casework.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to resolve complaints and liaise with partners.
• Ability to collate performance information and manage IT case management systems.

Responsibilities

• Line management and supervision of Targeted Housing Advisers, workload planning and appraisals.
• Casework oversight to ensure lawful and compliant decisions under housing acts.
• Provide specialist guidance on tenure, welfare benefits, debt, and accommodation options.
• Monitor KPIs, manage caseload progression and drive service improvements.
• Build multi-agency partnerships with council services and external stakeholders.
• Investigate complex inquiries and manage safeguarding risks.
• Deputise for the Team Manager when required.
