Housing Benefits Assessor – Remote

Rate: £28.50 per hour (Umbrella)

Location: West London (Remote Working)

Contract: 3–6 month ongoing contract

We are seeking an experienced Housing Benefits Assessor to support a busy West London local authority. This fully remote role requires someone with recent assessment experience who can confidently manage new claims, changes of circumstances, and complex cases in line with legislation and local policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and process Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support claims
  • Verify income, capital, rent liability, residency, and household details
  • Manage complex cases, overpayments and discretionary payment assessments
  • Ensure all decisions are accurate and comply with up-to-date legislation
  • Meet performance targets for speed, accuracy, and productivity
  • Provide excellent customer service and clear communication to residents and partner teams
Requirements
  • Recent local authority Housing Benefit assessment experience (essential)
  • Strong understanding of Housing Benefit legislation and Council Tax Support frameworks
  • Proficiency with assessment systems such as Northgate, Civica, or similar
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage caseloads effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate assessments under pressure
