Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Portering Supervisor to lead a portering team at Manchester Central Hospital. The role focuses on allocating workloads, supervising porters, and ensuring timely, safe service delivery in a busy healthcare setting.

You will manage attendance, training, and performance, while maintaining compliance with health and safety policies and fostering strong relationships with clinical teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising portering staff or similar teams.
• Experience in healthcare, facilities management, logistics, portering, or customer service.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands.
• Experience managing staff performance, attendance, and training.
• Good IT skills and confidence using digital job allocation systems.
• Understanding of health and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of porters, ensuring workloads are allocated effectively and service standards are consistently met.
• Monitor and manage the Hive/Rover systems, ensuring all portering requests are completed within agreed service timeframes.
• Coordinate day to day portering operations, responding to changing priorities and ensuring resources are deployed effectively across the hospital.
• Manage staff attendance, annual leave and sickness absence, including conducting return to work meetings and maintaining accurate records.
• Support staff development and performance, including training, inductions, team briefings and regular performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, infection prevention and Trust policies, maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
• Build strong working relationships with clinical teams, department managers and key stakeholders to ensure an efficient and responsive service.
• Lead operational response during emergency situations, coordinating portering resources for incidents such as fire alarms, cardiac arrests, major haemorrhage calls and helipad activity.
