Job summary

Protocol Education Limited in Morpeth is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a secure children’s unit. The role focuses on strong behaviour management, building trust with young people, and helping learners engage with their education.

You will work within the education team delivering a structured learning environment, provide 1:1 and small-group support, monitor progress and support safeguarding procedures, with ongoing training and development offered.

Pay: Dependent on experience

Protocol Education is looking for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a secure children’s unit in Morpeth.

This is an opportunity to combine your education experience with strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills, supporting young people to engage with learning and develop the confidence to move forward.

What You'll Be Doing

You will work as part of the education team, helping to provide a structured, supportive learning environment.

The role will involve:

• Supporting lessons across a range of subjects
• Delivering activities and interventions where appropriate
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Supporting behaviour management
• Helping young people regulate emotions and manage difficult situations
• Encouraging positive engagement with education
• Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
• Monitoring progress and feeding back to teaching staff
• Supporting safeguarding and welfare procedures
• Working closely with colleagues and other professionals

The Person We're Looking For

You may currently be working as an HLTA, experienced TA, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, LSA or Education Support Worker.

You should have:

• Experience working with young people
• Strong behaviour management skills
• Excellent communication skills
• A calm and consistent approach
• The ability to remain professional under pressure
• Confidence working within clear boundaries
• A genuine interest in supporting young people who have experienced barriers to education

Experience of SEMH, challenging behaviour, alternative provision, PRUs, residential settings or secure environments is desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
