Job summary

Protocol Education Limited is recruiting an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant for a secure provision in Morpeth. You will support young people with complex needs, contribute to behaviour management, and work within a secure education team to drive engagement and progress.

The role is full-time starting September 2026, with pay dependent on experience, and involves safeguarding checks and DBS compliance as part of the recruitment process.

Qualifications

• HLTA experience in a school or secure provision setting.
• Ability to support 1:1 and small-group learning activities.
• Willing to undertake safeguarding checks and DBS obligations.

Looking to take your HLTA experience into a more specialist environment?

Protocol Education is working with a secure children’s unit in Morpeth to recruit an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

You’ll become an important part of the education team, supporting young people who may have complex social, emotional and behavioural needs and who may have experienced significant disruption to their education.

Your Responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning across the provision
• Lead learning activities when required
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support
• Adapt activities to individual needs
• Encourage positive engagement with education
• Support behaviour and emotional regulation
• Promote independence and confidence
• Maintain a safe and structured environment
• Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff
• Contribute to monitoring and reviewing pupil progress

Experience We’d Like to See

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience of:

SEMH | Challenging Behaviour | SEND | PRU | Alternative Provision | Youth Work | Residential Care | Secure Settings

You’ll need to demonstrate a mature, consistent and professional approach and be comfortable working with young people who may present challenging behaviour.
