Job summary

Wray Common Primary School in Reigate, Surrey, seeks a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join four days per week. You will lead whole-class lessons in teacher absence and support smaller groups, ensuring high-quality learning and inclusive practice.

The ideal candidate will have GCSEs English and Maths, First Aid, experience with children, strong literacy and numeracy, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
• First Aid training (or willing to undertake training)
• Experience in working with children or in a school setting
• Skilled in planning and delivering learning activities
• Strong literacy, numeracy, and organisational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good understanding of safeguarding, SEND, and the curriculum
• Confident using ICT to support teaching and learning
• Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and resourceful

Responsibilities

• Deliver lessons to whole classes during planned and unplanned teacher absence
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate learning activities for individuals, groups, and classes
• Monitor pupil progress and provide clear feedback to support improvement
• Support pupils’ literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum learning
• Adapt teaching approaches to meet diverse learning needs, including SEND
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional resilience
• Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
• Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
• Contribute to pupil assessments and record-keeping
• Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and carers where appropriate
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and wider school team
• Provide guidance and day-to-day support to other classroom support staff
• Contribute to school events and attend meetings and training sessions
• Uphold confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities at all times
• Supervise pupils during breaktimes as required
• Prepare and use learning resources, including ICT tools
• Support the planning and delivery of interventions
• Follow all school policies, including safeguarding and behaviour
