Job summary

GSL Education is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to manage the Isolation Room in a mainstream secondary school in Boston. You will supervise students removed from lessons, maintain a calm environment and support their return to class.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in a school setting is essential.
• HLTA or education professional experience is desirable.
• Strong behaviour management and boundary-setting skills.
• Able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with students, staff and parents.
• Organised with accurate record-keeping.
• Willingness to work closely with teachers and senior leaders.
• Relevant behaviour management or education training is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Take day-to-day responsibility for the effective running of the Isolation Room.
• Supervise students and maintain a calm, purposeful environment.
• Reinforce the school's behaviour expectations and values consistently.
• Support students in completing work while in isolation.
• Hold restorative conversations with students when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of students attending the room.
• Liaise with teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders regarding student behaviour.
• Communicate with parents or carers when required.
• Support students with reintegration into lessons and routines.
• Recognise safeguarding, SEND and welfare concerns and respond appropriately.
