Job summary

GSL Education is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to manage an Isolation Room in a Boston secondary school. You will supervise students, maintain a calm environment and reinforce school expectations while facilitating work during isolation.

The role requires strong behaviour management, clear boundaries, and the ability to communicate with teachers, parents, and senior leaders. DBS checks and safeguarding knowledge are essential to this position.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in a school or education setting is essential.
• Previous HLTA, behaviour support, pastoral or similar experience is highly desirable.
• A relevant qualification or training in behaviour management, education, youth work or a related area would be advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
• Organised and confident maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Take day-to-day responsibility for the effective running of the Isolation Room.
• Supervise students and maintain a calm, purposeful environment.
• Reinforce the school's behaviour expectations and values consistently.
• Support students in completing appropriate work while in isolation.
• Manage challenging behaviour using effective de-escalation strategies.
• Hold restorative conversations with students where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of students attending the room and monitor recurring patterns.
• Liaise with teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders regarding student behaviour.
• Communicate with parents or carers when required.
• Support students with their successful reintegration into lessons and school routines.
