Job summary

Barking and Dagenham College is seeking an Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – English, to start in August 2026. This full-time role covers 36 hours per week, term-time only (38 weeks per year), with a pro rata salary of £28,041 to £29,560.

You will support GCSE English learners, work with teaching staff to remove barriers to learning, and contribute to safeguarding and inclusive teaching practices at the Rush Green campus.

Qualifications

• GCSE or Level 2 English (or Equivalent) at Pass is essential.
• HLTA Status/equivalent level of education, or a willingness to work towards this pathway.
• Demonstrable background of continuous development in a professional/academic capacity, ideally in Student Support in FE.
• Ability to influence change and build meaningful relationships with colleagues and leaners.
• Communicative approach to tailored-learning with adaptability to learner needs.
• Open to graduates or Teaching Assistants; SEN experience (ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism) of interest.
• Knowledge of Safeguarding, Child Protection procedures, assistive tech and inclusive teaching practices.

Responsibilities

• Support GCSE English learners to achieve outcomes and progress.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver inclusive learner support across curriculum.
• Contribute to safeguarding and welfare of learners and foster an inclusive learning culture.
