Job summary

Barking and Dagenham College is recruiting an Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for English to join our team for a August 2026 start. This full-time, 36 hours per week, term-time only role (38 weeks per year) offers a salary of £28,041 to £29,560 per annum pro rata.

The HLTA will support GCSE English learning, work across the learner support space, and contribute to inclusive education. We welcome applicants who are committed to learner success, with HLTA status or willingness to pursue it,

Qualifications

• GCSE or Level 2 English (or Equivalent) at Pass is essential
• HLTA Status/equivalent level of education, or a willingness to work towards this pathway
• Experience in Student Support space across Further Education – administrative or teaching-support related
• Ability to influence change and build meaningful relationships with colleagues and learners
• Communicative approach to tailored-learning and adapting to learner needs
• Experience mentoring/supporting learners with SEN needs (ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism) is of particular interest
• Knowledge of Safeguarding, Child Protection procedures, assistive technology and inclusive teaching practices

Responsibilities

• Support learners in GCSE English and improve learner outcomes
• Collaborate with colleagues to foster inclusive teaching practices and learner success
