Job summary

Berry Recruitment is seeking a Hire Manager in Bury St Edmunds to drive the Hire Desk and Transport function. You will lead, motivate and develop a team of Coordinators and Drivers, ensuring safe, efficient, customer-focused operations while growing revenue and maintaining compliance.

Your role includes staffing, workload planning, coaching, stock control and driving performance to meet customers' timescales. The position is permanent and carries a Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a hire desk, transport operation, or similar customer-facing operational team.
• Focus on revenue growth and add-on sales.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
• Strong communication with staff, customers and stakeholders at all levels.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities in an operational environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the Hire Desk and Transport function.
• Allocate, prioritise and monitor workloads for Hire & Sales Coordinators and Drivers.
• Recruit, motivate, coach and develop team members.
• Ensure adequate staffing cover including holidays, absences and weekend work.
• Oversee stock control of consumables and resale items and reorder as needed.
• Monitor transport performance to meet customer delivery timescales.
• Maintain high standards of hire desk administration and system accuracy.
