Job summary

NY Highways is seeking an experienced highways construction professional to join the External Works team across North Yorkshire. You will contribute to major drainage, paving, kerbing and public realm schemes, delivering high-quality civil engineering projects in a stable, long-term partnership with North Yorkshire Council.

Applicants should have background in highways construction or civil engineering, with a full UK driving licence and a proven track record in safe, quality delivery on medium

Qualifications

  • NRSWA accreditation or equivalent required.
  • Plant machinery and equipment certs (NPORS/CPCS) valued.
  • SSSTS or similar safety training advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality highways paving, kerbing and drainage installations.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specs.
  • Work as part of a skilled site team on varied projects across North Yorkshire.
  • Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, safety and performance.

Are you an experienced highways construction professional looking for your next challenge? At NY Highways, quality craftsmanship can be seen across North Yorkshire, from major highways schemes to local community improvements. We are expanding our External Works team and we're looking for a highly skilled individual with experience delivering quality highways and civil engineering projects. From major drainage improvements and kerbing schemes to paving and public realm works, you'll play a key role in projects that improve communities across North Yorkshire. The role is specifically working for the county's Highways Service, so travel as part of the role will only ever be within North Yorkshire, a big benefit if you want to limit work related travel time. This is an opportunity to join a stable, growing organisation with a guaranteed programme of work and involvement in a range of exciting, large-scale infrastructure projects across the county. Whether your background is in highways construction, groundworks, civil engineering or public realm improvements, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll be doing
  • High-quality paving, kerbing and drainage installation works
  • Delivering highways construction and improvement schemes
  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Working as part of a skilled site team on projects ranging from local improvements to major civil engineering schemes
  • Operating plant, tools and specialist equipment safely and effectively
  • Ensuring all work is completed to the required quality, safety and performance standards
  • Working across North Yorkshire, with travel to sites throughout the county (company vehicle provided) Experience working in highways maintenance, construction, civil engineering or groundworks
  • Confidence and competence in high-standard finishing works including paving, kerbing and drainage
  • Knowledge of highways construction schemes and site operations
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects
  • Strong health and safety awareness
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable
  • NRSWA Operative accreditation (Modules 01-08)
  • Plant certification such as NPORS or CPCS
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings
