Job summary

NY Highways in North Yorkshire is seeking a Highways Officer to manage and monitor highway maintenance in the Richmond area, ensuring the network remains safe and serviceable for all users. You will work with colleagues, contractors and the public to deliver high-quality highway maintenance services.

Qualifications

  • Experience working within highways maintenance or related service environment.
  • Knowledge of highways legislation, inspection regimes and maintenance practices.
  • Experience planning, coordinating or monitoring highways works programmes.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with diverse stakeholders.

About the role

As a Highways Officer, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring highway maintenance activities within the Richmond area, ensuring the network remains safe and serviceable for all users. Working closely with colleagues, contractors, local stakeholders and members of the public, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality highway maintenance services.

Key responsibilities
  • Managing highway inspections and ensuring compliance with required standards and service levels.
  • Identifying and ordering maintenance works to address defects and maintain network safety.

About you
  • Experience working within highways maintenance, highways operations or a related service environment.
  • Knowledge of highways legislation, inspection regimes and maintenance practices.
  • Experience of planning, coordinating or monitoring highways works programmes.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to make sound decisions and exercise professional judgement in challenging situations.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to interpret information and identify solutions.
  • A full driving licence and the ability to travel across North Yorkshire.
