Derbyshire County Council is offering a Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprenticeship (Level 2) to help you gain practical experience while studying. You will join a skilled team delivering essential highway services that keep communities connected, safe and moving.

You will learn through structured on‑the‑job and work‑based experiences, developing industry‑recognised skills and behaviours that prepare you for a competent highways operative role.

Qualifications

• This apprenticeship is for enthusiastic individuals keen to learn practical highways skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely under supervision.
• Good team working and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with highway repairs including carriageways, footways and drainage.
• Supporting excavation, reinstatement and maintenance activities.
• Working with tools, plant and equipment under supervision.
• Assisting with traffic management and site safety arrangements.
• Supporting safe delivery of works in live highway environments.
• Maintaining equipment and keeping work areas tidy and safe.
