Job summary

Coventry City Council is recruiting for a Highways Apprentice to join the Highways Operations & Development team. You will learn to pave, lay kerbs, rake tarmac and install drainage under the guidance of site supervisors and skilled operatives.

You will undertake the Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship, travel to college, and stay in a council-provided hotel during blocks. 21-month fixed-term contract begins November 2026.

Qualifications

• Willing to work outside in all weathers.
• Reliable, punctual and have good communication skills.
• Able to work using own initiative as well as in a team environment.
• Undertake a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship standard.

Responsibilities

• Help pave and lay kerbs, rake tarmac and install drainage systems.
• Support highway construction and maintenance of footways and carriageways.
• Learn from experienced site Supervisors and operatives.
