Responsibilities

Setting Out Engineer - Major Highways Infrastructure Project

Location: Ballinluig, Perthshire, Scotland

Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum - Dependent on Experience

Contract: Permanent

Are you an experienced Setting Out Engineer looking to develop your career on a major highways infrastructure project? Do you want to gain valuable experience on a technically challenging scheme, take responsibility for setting out activities and work alongside an experienced engineering team?

My client is an established civil engineering contractor with a strong reputation for delivering major highways and infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to join a significant highways scheme in Ballinluig, where you will play an important role in ensuring construction works are delivered accurately, safely and to the required standards.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Setting Out Engineer, you will work closely with the Senior Engineers and Site Management team to support the delivery of construction activities across a major highways infrastructure project.

• You will carry out accurate setting out for highways construction, earthworks, drainage, structures and associated civil engineering works.
• You will use surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS and levelling equipment, to ensure construction activities are completed to the required specifications.
• You will interpret engineering drawings, designs and technical specifications to support site operations.
• You will conduct site surveys, dimensional checks and as-built surveys throughout construction.
• You will ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• You will support the preparation and completion of inspection and test plans, quality assurance records and site documentation.
• You will work closely with site supervisors, subcontractors and the wider engineering team to resolve technical issues.
• You will monitor construction activities and identify any discrepancies between design information and site conditions.
• You will assist with maintaining accurate site records, progress reports and as-built documentation.
• You will promote and maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance across the project.

What You'll Need

To be successful in this Setting Out Engineer position, you will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a Setting Out Engineer or Site Engineer role within civil engineering.
• Experience working on highways, roads, earthworks, drainage or major infrastructure projects.
• Confidence using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS and levelling instruments.
• The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• A good understanding of construction methods, quality assurance and site engineering procedures.
• Experience producing as-built surveys and maintaining accurate site records.
• A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• A valid CSCS card.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using AutoCAD or similar engineering software would be advantageous.
