Job summary

We are looking for a positive, dynamic, self-motivated Paediatric Physiotherapist with extensive experience of working with children across the spectrum of needs and a proven track record for delivering outstanding care in clinic and community settings; to join the Community Health Service in Merton. You will provide a service that is responsive, high quality, value for money and meets our contractual obligations including service development.

Your role will be to provide assessment, advice and treatment to children with a range of neurological, neurodevelopmental and coordination disorders; including complex medical needs. The role will include diverse work within local clinics, mainstream schools and nurseries and patient's homes.

You will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Merton Community Services and with outside services to deliver paediatric physiotherapy advice and treatment meeting the needs of children and young people across Merton. You will have had extensive experience of working with children in the community setting and special schools or similar. You should be able to evidence excellent team working, communication and IT skills and have a passion for continuous improvement.

You should have had experience of management, leadership and service development. The successful candidate must also have experience of supporting and developing junior members of staff, data analysis and clinic coordination.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work autonomously and in collaboration with the community teams within CLCH, other health care professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver a high-quality physiotherapy service to children and young people in the Merton Community.

With a variety of conditions including complex needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities, and acute rehabilitation.

In the community setting which is most appropriate for that child i.e., clinic, school, nursery, patient's home, children centres or special school.

To perform an advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations and from this formulate a problem lists and treatment plan, which is carried out as an autonomous practitioner.

To carry a clinical caseload and work independently as a clinical lead.

To take a lead role in the supervision, line management, appraisal and teaching of junior physiotherapists, students and MDT staff in physiotherapeutic care of children with a variety of conditions.

To develop and promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovative practice with the physiotherapy team supervise, initiate, and participate in evidence-based projects and be responsible for implementing changes within the team/area and setting and monitoring standards of practice.

To assist the Team Leader on data analysis and reporting for the physiotherapy team.

Qualifications

• Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
• Current HCPC registration
• Attendance at specialist courses or equivalent CPD activities within the specialist areas of Paediatric Physiotherapy
• Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
• Member of the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists
• Supervisory / leadership skills training
• Evidence of attendance at training in the area of assessment and treatment of children with additional needs.

Experience

• Specialist knowledge and experience in Paediatric physiotherapy including children with additional needs.
• Experience of delivering physiotherapy within a community setting, including clinic, patient's homes, schools, nursery or children's centres, special schools as appropriate.
• Substantial experience as a Band 6 physiotherapist in Paediatrics including respiratory, Orthopaedics and Neurology.
• Post graduate experience covering core rotations.
• Knowledge/ experience in the use of relevant assessment and treatment approaches, including the use of standardised assessments.
• Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary and multi-agency work
• Experience in training/teaching healthcare professionals
• Experience in contributing to policy, procedures, guidelines and clinical standards development.
• Evidence of the ability to supervise or manage Junior Staff/ Assistants/ students
• Experience of working with/ within a Special Education School.
• Experience working as a Band 7 Physiotherapist
• Experience in conducting audits and / or research.
• Experience in setting up new projects/ initiatives
• Knowledge of current policy and political drivers impacting on public health and the NHS.
• Experience of working in the NHS
