Job description

Lead Physiotherapist - Merton Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team

This is a lead physiotherapy role within the Merton Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team. You will provide highly specialised neuro physiotherapy to patients referred to the team and will be responsible for the clinical supervision and support of physiotherapists within the team.

You will also offer clinical expertise for patients with neurological conditions and act as the lead clinician for the learning and development of physiotherapists and multidisciplinary staff, supporting the development of the Merton Neuro Physiotherapy service.

The successful candidate will deliver highly specialised physiotherapy to patients with confirmed neurological diagnoses, working autonomously and being accountable for their professional actions. You will provide expert advice on the care of patients with a range of psychosocial, physical, and emotional issues, including terminal illnesses, in a community setting.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Manage a clinical caseload, developing, implementing, and delivering physiotherapy as a specialist clinician, including assessment, treatment planning, and treatment execution.
  2. Develop and implement specialist treatment programmes and initiate discharge planning, assessing complex factors related to the patient's condition.
  3. Communicate complex assessment and treatment plans sensitively with patients and carers, managing emotional or distressing circumstances and setting realistic expectations.
  4. Establish communication networks with multidisciplinary teams and external organisations as appropriate.
  5. Assess, recommend, and fit medical devices or equipment to facilitate patient rehabilitation.
