Job summary

Strathmore School, part of Helix Learning Trust, seeks a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs. The role focuses on developing independence, communication and confidence in learners aged 4–19 across our campuses.

Strathmore is part of Helix Learning Trust. Helix Learning Trust brings together five mainstream schools and three specialist schools serving children and young people aged 4 to 19 across the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Strathmore school is a forward-thinking and innovative special school, currently located across the borough of Richmond in 4 campuses. All our sites are co-located with local, inclusive-minded mainstream primary and secondary schools, and we work closely with each school to promote an inclusive partnership.

We are a happy, positive and hardworking staff, educating learners aged 4-19 with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities and many of whom have a co-diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition. We work closely with colleagues from Educational Psychology, Health and Social Care to ensure that our learners receive all the support and challenge they need to achieve. Every learner has an Education, Health and Care Plan that details what and how they are learning, including input from Speech and Language, Occupational, and Physiotherapy.

The Role

This is a rewarding role at the heart of our school community, supporting children and young people with severe and complex learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition, to develop independence, communication and confidence. Working in close partnership with teachers, therapists and families, you will lead engaging learning experiences, shape personalised pathways, and help create a nurturing, inclusive environment where every learner can thrive. We are looking for someone who brings energy, creativity and commitment, and who shares our belief that every learner has the potential to achieve and contribute to their community.

You’ll help pupils thrive academically, socially, and emotionally through:
