Job summary

A leading education recruitment agency is looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support the teaching and learning of pupils in Lewisham. In this long-term role, the HLTA will plan, deliver, and assess learning activities while working under the guidance of teachers. Applicants should hold an HLTA qualification or an equivalent Level 4 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, with proven experience in educational support. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, as well as a strong understanding of the national curriculum and the ability to work with children with additional needs.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational support role.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) supports the teaching and learning of pupils across the school, working under the guidance of teachers to plan, deliver, and assess learning activities. The HLTA may take responsibility for leading lessons, covering classes, and supporting individuals or small groups to raise attainment and ensure positive pupil progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with teachers to plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities in line with the school curriculum.
• Lead whole-class learning under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher, providing effective classroom management and engagement.
• Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities and additional needs.
• Assess, record, and report on pupil progress in line with school policies.
• Provide feedback to pupils to support their learning and personal development.
• Supervise pupils in a range of settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and during educational visits.
• Assist in the preparation and organisation of classroom resources and learning environments.
• Support teachers with administrative and organisational tasks related to classroom management.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

Qualifications and Experience

• HLTA qualification or equivalent Level 4 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
