Job summary

Powersystems is hiring a HV Substation Fitter to support renewable energy projects across the UK, including frequent overnight stays. The role focuses on installing, testing and commissioning high-voltage equipment up to 132kV, in a site-based Bristol hub.

You will mentor junior staff, follow BS 7671 guidelines, and contribute to a safe, professional project culture with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• HV fitter with installation, assembly and testing of high-voltage gear.
• Experience with HV switchgear and substations.
• Proven brazing and exothermic welding skills.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 regulations is advantageous.
• Experience guiding apprentices or less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

• Install, assemble and test HV structures and equipment up to 132kV in outdoor substations.
• Perform inspections, ductor testing and quality checks; record results to drawings and specs.
• Mentor and support less experienced fitters and apprentices, upholding safety standards.
• Assist the HV Installation team on site with safe working practices.
• Represent Powersystems and uphold Health, Safety, Professionalism and Proactivity.

What You’ll Do

• Carry out the installation, assembly and testing of high-voltage structures, switchgear and associated equipment in outdoor substations up to 132kV
• Complete inspections, ductor testing and quality checks, recording results accurately and confirming installations comply with drawings, specifications and required standards
• Guide, support and mentor less experienced fitters and apprentices, maintaining consistently high standards of safety and workmanship
• Assist the wider HV Installation team with site activities, operating within your competence and agreed safe working practices
• Represent Powersystems professionally and demonstrate our core principles: Priority No.1 – Health, Safety and Wellbeing, Professionalism, Pride, Partnership and Proactivity

What We’re Looking For - Fitter

• Strong practical experience working as an HV Fitter
• Demonstrated experience in the installation, assembly and testing of HV switchgear and associated substation equipment
• Proven experience of oxygen and propane brazing and exothermic welding
• A sound working knowledge of BS 7671 regulations would be advantageous
• Experience guiding, supporting or mentoring less experienced fitters and apprentices
• A full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
