Job summary

Auto Skills UK are recruiting a Workshop Chargehand to join our busy Exeter Depot. You will oversee a team of Service Technicians and help drive workshop performance. The role requires HGV Class 2 driving license, municipal vehicle maintenance experience and strong diagnostics, communication, and safety awareness.

Working hours are 45 per week, Monday to Friday, with a base salary of £52,000 per annum. Benefits include generous holiday allowance and a Share Save scheme.

Qualifications

• HGV Apprentice served qualification.
• Municipal vehicle maintenance experience.
• HGV Class 2 driving licence (minimum).
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a busy environment.
• Diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Good reading and computer literacy.
• High level of Health and Safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Ensure daily VOR report is sent to Workshop Controller before 9am with the NNC report.
• Maintain efficient day-to-day operation of the workshop and manage defects to keep VOR to a minimum.
• Manage workload to ensure smooth running of workshop.
• Monitor onsite stock of oils and fluids and order replenishments as required.
• Ensure warranty parts are returned and paperwork completed.
• Cover out of hours breakdown standby on a rota basis if required.
• Maintain relationships with vehicle manufacturers and provide technical info to Technicians.
• Comply with Health & Safety regulations and maintain housekeeping and security.
• Supervise and motivate the Service Technicians and review daily workload to drive performance.
• Maintain high customer satisfaction by quality checks and providing information to customers.
