Job summary

Job description

Lead from the front. Support a skilled team. Remain hands-on. An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Foreman to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of an established commercial vehicle workshop. This is a key leadership position within a stable and respected local business that values quality, teamwork and long-term employee development. You will lead a skilled team of HGV Technicians, ensuring work is planned effectively, completed safely and delivered to consistently high standards.

The Role

This is a hands-on Foreman position that combines strong technical knowledge with effective people management. You will organise the daily workload, support and motivate the workshop team, maintain high standards of workmanship and step in with diagnostics, servicing and repairs when required.

• Leading, supervising and supporting a team of HGV Technicians
• Planning and allocating daily workloads according to operational priorities
• Monitoring job progress, productivity and quality of workmanship
• Providing technical guidance and practical support to technicians
• Setting clear expectations and holding team members accountable
• Coaching and developing technicians to improve performance and capability
• Diagnosing faults and assisting with servicing, maintenance and repairs
• Overseeing vehicle inspections, repairs and road testing
• Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales
• Maintaining accurate service, inspection and maintenance records
• Ensuring workshop tools, equipment and facilities are properly maintained
• Promoting excellent housekeeping and high health and safety standards
• Creating a positive, professional and collaborative workshop environment

About You

You will be an experienced commercial vehicle professional with the technical credibility and leadership skills needed to bring out the best in a workshop team.

The successful candidate will:

• Have previous experience leading or supervising a workshop or technical team
• Be a confident people manager who can motivate, support and challenge others
• Lead by example and remain comfortable working hands-on when required
• Possess strong HGV or commercial vehicle maintenance and diagnostic experience
• Be capable of organising workloads and managing competing priorities
• Communicate clearly and professionally with technicians and management
• Take pride in delivering work to consistently high standards
• Have a proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach
• Possess a strong understanding of workshop health and safety requirements
• A City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline is preferred.

A full UK driving licence is required. An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
